Croupiers work in licensed casinos conducting various tasks relating to games of chance, for example, explaining and interpreting the rules to customers.
A croupier's work may include the following:
- shuffling and dealing for card games, such as blackjack and poker
- spinning money wheels, mini dice cages or roulette wheels
- announcing the winner of games
- paying out the winning bets and collecting the losing bets
- selling chips (gambling tokens) from behind a counter.

- being in charge of a gambling game table that is running smoothly
Demanding aspects
- customers' unhappiness when they lose repeatedly
- working irregular hours until late at night
- remaining alert and efficient for long periods
Requirements
By law, no person under the age of 18 years is allowed to work on the gambling floor.
No criminal record and no blacklisting by any credit bureau.
School Subjects
A National Senior Certificate and basic mathematics is recommended.

In-service training is given by the company of employment.
