Fundraisers help organizations such as schools, social service organizations and governments to raise money. They organize and plan fundraising programmes.
Their first task is to become familiar with the private foundations and government agencies that have funds available. This is done by contacting the foundation officials and receiving publications. They sometimes sit in on meetings where budgets are planned, and the anticipated income, budget and expenditure of the company are determined by financial officials.
Fundraisers may also help to find a solution when expenses are more than the funding plans would provide. They search for the best possible funding source and write funding proposals.
Non-profit organizations have their own executives,who approve or reject proposals. It is the fundraiser's responsibility to follow up on a proposal and to consult with the foundation representatives, if they feel it is necessary. Once the organization receives the funds, the fundraiser ensures that all requirements are met and that follow-up reports are sent to all the appropriate parties. Fundraisers act as project managers in a sense.

Requirements
Fundraisers need to be/have:
- at least 16 years old
- good communication and interpersonal skills
- able to persuade people to contribute to a worthy cause
- pay attention to detail

- can persuade, motivate and inspire others
- able to cope with some pressure and meet deadlines

Training
No formal further training is required.
A public relations qualification will stand you in good stead.
